These past few decades, social sciences such as psychology and sociology have delved more and more into the mysterious world of online dating. So yeah, this whole online dating thing is pretty serious. Most would probably agree that one of the central parts of any dating profile is the photos a person decides to upload.
Here’s how pets are guiding modern millennials’ dating decisions. Pet Products Association biennial survey of pet owners found two-thirds of U.S. and Gen Z pet parents have dogs while just under 50 percent have cats.
Online dating can be a very fun experience, but it can also be disappointing if one of the key aspects of your lifestyle is not included in your profile: the fact that you have a pet. Dogs are adorable in all their shapes and sizes , so it is common for pooches to attract dog lovers both virtually and in person. Walking your dog can help you meet and strike a conversation with people in your area that could be interested in getting to know you better.

By Emily Webber For Mailonline. Women looking for romance on dating apps perceive are less likely to swipe right if their potential suitor is holding a cat, according to new research. The study, carried out by scientists at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, at Colorado State University, found that profile photos of men holding cats were seen as ‘less dateable’ and ‘less masculine’ by many women.
Men who held a confident pose and appeared alone in their profile pic were more likely to attract women, the survey found. In the study by Colorado State University, women were asked to choose which photo, of a year-old man, they preferred. The scientists said it was possible that the women defaulted to the notion that the man alone was a ‘dog person’ or more likely to date a ‘dog person’. Straight women, aged between 18 and 24, living in the US, were asked to rate the same man posing with and without a cat on his lap.
Photos of two men, both in their early twenties, were shown to the group. Both prospective dates had dark hair, wore a blue buttoned down shirt and were photographed against a white background while posing with and without the same tabby cat. After the pictures were displayed, they rated the men on attributes including perceived personality, masculinity, dateability and whether they would consider going out with the person for a short or long-term relationship.
The study found that women perceived the man holding the cat as ‘less masculine’ and ultimately ‘less datable’ in both the short and long term. Pet hates for daters: Another shot, of a year-old man with a similar blue buttoned-down shirt without a cat left prompted the same reaction.

First of all, define “cat lady. It is my personal belief that most female cat owners below the age of 40 fall into the “not a cat girl, not yet a cat lady” category. Cat ladies mostly look like … normal ladies. You know. Like regular women. Not like the old hag who sits in front of your local Shop Rite with aluminum foil on her head. If you liked her before you knew she had a cat, there’s no reason to assume anything about her once you’ve learned she has one. On the bright side, if you do, she will learn early that you are a regulation schmuck and won’t want you around her cat.
She takes pride in being called a cat lady. The relationship between a girl and her cat is like the one between a man and his dog in a Jack London story. Just remember that the bond between a girl and her cat is a special and unique bond. An “I got home and told my cat about my day” bond. Because, let’s face it, cats are often more emotionally intelligent than men.
They also don’t send idiotic text messages.
